Thermogram
Thermal cameras for automotive and electric vehicle diagnostics
Choose a thermal camera for brakes, bearings, connections and cooling systems. A seventh use-case profile with results grouped by level and explicit measurement limits.
Choose for the task
Brakes, bearings, connections, cooling and heating systems can be compared by their thermal patterns. A camera supports diagnosis; it does not replace manufacturer reference values or electrical testing.
A published, transparent profile
Sensor 25%, optics 25%, measurement 25%, usability 10%, ergonomics 15%. Existing base A and electrical B internal scales are reused. Default scenario: a 20 mm connection at 50 cm with temperature measurement. No bonus is awarded for a brand or an automotive marketing label.
Limits and safety
A thermal camera observes accessible surfaces: it does not see through a battery housing, bodywork or glass. Shiny metals reflect their surroundings. Compare under matched conditions; do not handle high-voltage connections or open a battery to obtain an image. Suspected overheating requires the manufacturer procedure and a qualified professional.
Selector results for a typical situation
Typical situation: a vehicle connection or bearing, a 2 cm area whose temperature is measured, at 50 cm. Only current devices that are documented well enough and suited to this situation are kept. They are ranked separately by level of use, each level having its own scoring scale: a score is only comparable within the same group. Suitability combines the use-case score (60 %) and spatial resolution at this distance (40 %). 56 other devices could not be assessed because essential data is missing (most often: spatial resolution cannot be calculated (field of view not published)). Adjust distance, target, budget or form factor in the selector.
Occasional use
Phone modules, thermal phones and entry-level cameras
Compact devices or devices tethered to a smartphone, for occasional checks.
